The Unethical Abuse of Todays Elderly Essays -- essays research papers

THE UNETHICAL ABUSE OF HUMAN RIGHTS ON THE ELDERLY Waking up in the middle of the night frightened and shaken up is a terrible time that each one of us can remember feeling. Then having someone close to us who we trusted come in, pick us up, and hold us tight produced a sense of security. We were able to take that security, and build a dignified and confident person that grew wiser with age. It seems though that in some instances, as we grow older and wiser, some do not get the respect and dignity that is owed to them. The security that helped build their lives has been stripped from them. Seniors end up losing the human right of having dignity and security that they have come to enjoy and live with. Our human rights do not answer to the needs of today’s elderly, either through discriminatory acts, or acts of abuse. We should all be treated with the same free discriminatory human rights as well as the opportunity to equality, as stated in the Canadian Human Rights Act (CHRA). It declares that†¦ †¦[a]ll individuals should have an opportunity equal with other individuals to make for themselves the lives that they are able and wish to have and to have their needs accommodated, consistent with their duties and obligations as members of society, without being hindered in or prevented from doing so by discriminatory practices based on race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, family status, disability or conviction for an offence for which a pardon has been granted.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   To live in such a perfect world where everybody can have their needs addressed would be as though you were living a dream. But in the cruel reality, many people get discriminated against on an everyday basis; especially seniors. Many seniors today find themselves being taken advantaged of in a number of manifest and latent ways. The simple need of being treated with the same human rights as all other people is escaping our reality. As a person grows older they begin to experience the different classes of mistreatment. Although the CHRA tries to protect people with human rights, they themselves show and promote the act of discrimination. â€Å"Much of what we associate with aging is simply ‘socially constructed’† . Since the discrimination against elderly people is so characterized, it is not surprising that soc... ...manity, perhaps it should be our turn to sit and listen, rather than trying to force our realm of ideas upon them. Western civilization is what we call modern society that mainly includes North America and Western Europe. But how did this western way of life come to be? Their are many different ways but mainly through ancient cultures. The two main ones are the Greek and Roman. Greece with their golden age and Rome with its great Empire and Republic and also together. Their are many ways in which western civilization is like the ancient Greek civilization. They started the Olympic games. Greeks come up with the idea of an alphabet that it still used today. They were the first to think of the idea of democracy. They had common people participate in their government and to elect a leader. These aircraft include the Merlin IIC, Merlin IVC, and the Metro III. These three aircraft are powered by two turboprop engines equipped with constant speed, full feathering, four blade, reversible propellers made by Dowty-Rotol, or McCauley propellers. The cabin is pressurized, heated and cooled by bleed air which is ducted through valves, heat exchangers, and refrigeration unit. The air conditioning system supplies cold, hot, and fresh air to both the cockpit and the cabin. These aircraft have two independent systems; both are capable of complete air conditioning. Bleed air is supplied by each engine to drive cooling turbines that provide the cool air. The bleed air is routed to the center section of the aircraft and mixed with cool air to provide hot air. Fresh air is supplied by a blower and motor assembly located in the nose baggage compartment. Either bleed air system may be operated on the ground when the respective engine is operating. Ducts within the fuselage distribute the airflow to the passengers and the crew. An automatic temperature control system senses and regulates the temperature within the aircraft. PRESSURIZATIONThe cabin is pressurized to increase passenger comfort. The pressurization system automatically compensates for increasing aircraft altitude by maintaining cabin altitude as near to field elevation as possible. The cabin altitude will remain at sea level until airplane altitude reaches approximately 17,000 feet. The pressurization system also provides for the emergency dumping of cabin pressurization, automatic over pressurization relief, and negative relief. The pressurization system, within the limits available, maintain the cabin of the aircraft at any selected pressure altitude equal to or lower than the aircraft altitude. In normal operation, the system controls the increase or decrease in cabin pressure and the rate at which these changes in pressure take place. Safety features prevent the cabin from exceeding the maximum pressurization limit and from maintaining a negative pressure. A safety dump valve is used to manually dump cabin pressure. The entire fuselage, with exception of the nose baggage compartment, is pressurized. The outflow valve is located on the aft pressure bulkhead. The emergency dump valve is located on the forward pressure bulkhead. Normal airflow through the aircraft is rearward and out the outflow valve. HEATINGThe heating and cooling air conditioning system, the pressurization control system, and the fresh air system comprise the environmental control system (ECS). Bleed air supplied from the engines, mixed with cold air from the cooling turbines, is used for heating the cabin and cockpit. The heating system consists of two hot air mixing valves controlled by the temperature control system. Each valve controls the introduction of hot air into the cold air duct. An orifice plate is installed on all later model aircraft at the hot air entry side of the Hot Air Mixing Valve, between the hot air line flange and the valve gasket. The orifice reduces noise by restricting airflow. By reducing the airflow, the cabin will take longer to get warm. If you need to heat the cabin faster during the winter months, remove the orifice plate and reinstall it during the warmer months. The orifice plate may be removed permanently. COOLINGA cooling turbine is installed in each wing. Bleed air from the flow control valve drives the turbine. Cooled bleed air is used to cool and pressurize the cabin. Other systems remove moisture from the cooled air and help prevent ice accumulation in the system. Air enters the turbines and passes through an air-to-air heat exchanger. The cooling turbine inlet and outlet are located in the wing near the turbine. RAM air enters the heat exchanger and cools the bleed air. The inlet transition duct features a spring-loaded door to supply air to the heat exchanger in the event the inlet is blocked. Bleed air is routed through the heat exchanger and directed onto the turbine wheel. The turbine wheel and impeller are connected to a common shaft. The rotation of the impeller draws air through the inlet and over the heat exchanger coils. Air passing over the heat exchanger coils cools the bleed air. Your Handsome Captain And Vise Sometimes a situation in a play can be repeated in another play can be repeated in another play but receive a different reaction and/or outcome. In the short plays "Your Handsome Captain" and "The Vise" the two lead characters experience pretty much the same situation, but get different outcomes at the end. In "Your Handsome Captain" Wilnor is in Guadeloupe and his wife is in Haiti. Wilnor is there because he is trying to make money for his family. He sends money periodically with a messenger. Marie Ange is at home and very lonely so she sleeps with the messenger. she reveals this to her husband on a tape. His reaction is unexpected, Wilnor forgives his wife claiming that he has had the same urges she has had. In the play "The Vise" the situation and reactions are a bit different. In the play Andrea is also betrayed by his wife but he isn't living far from his wife. He has just worked too hard (in order to provide a life for his family). Being constantly alone in her house his wife feels neglected and sleeps with one of Andrea's friends/co-workers. Unlike in "Your Handsome Captain" Andrea doesn't forgive his wife. Instead he forces her into a suicide. A completely different ending as compared to "Your Handsome Captain." A character's morals are also put into glance in these play. Andrea may be at first the stronger of the two lead (him and Wilnor), not tolerating his wife's adultery. But he is in fact the weaker, unable to sympathize with her wives loneliness. Wilnor, on the other hand is perceived as weak at first but is revealed to be much more reasonable than Andrea. His forgiving by nature gives him higher morals than that of the twisted Andrea. In the end they reacted differently to the same situation because they were different, as simple as that may seem. Both of these men were lonely, distant from their wives in one way or another. They were thrown into a situation where each handled it completely different. Simply because they were different people.
